Condensed Milk Party Sweets

Hi, everyone!

Today my blog completes 2 months of existence!
SO I decided to share my best party sweets recipes!
It is easy, as usual!

The secret for this sweet is to know when it is ready...
and to make it in ADVANCE.
For example, if the party is on Sunday, you make it on Friday night. Then let it cool until Saturday. On Saturday you "roll" it. And on Sunday it will be perfect to eat!! That way you are not slaving hours and hours in the kitchen.

To start, add 1 can of condensed milk and
1 tbsp of margarine (or butter) in a small pan.

As you heat it, it will get liquid,
but then it will start to thicken.

Like here. This takes about 5 min, you have to be stirring and watching there. Do not leave it unattended or it will stick to the bottom of the pan and burn.

It is ready as soon as you move all "dough" to one side of the pan and you can see the bottom of the pan, like here. This is a bad photo as I have the cell on one hand taking a picture and the other hand is holding the pan... but you will understand. This won't take long. If you let it thicken too much the sweets will be chewy. You don't want that. You want soft inside with a little crust outside.

Put the dough on a plate. After it cools, cover with saran wrap (plastic) and leave them overnight.

If you are making chocolate ones like me (I always make white and chocolate) do the same thing, but add 2tbsp of chocolate powder to the condensed milk and margarine.

I even added to the same pan I made the white one...

It thickens...

See? Same process.
Put on a dish, wait overnight to make the little balls.

So the next day you roll the whites in sugar and the chocolate ones in chocolate sprinkles. I make little balls using half of a tea spoon (or less) of dough, and roll them in my wet hands.
I leave a bowl with water right beside me so I wet my hands as I make the little balls.

I then put them on the plate with sugar (or sprinkles). When I have about 10 of them, I wash my hands, and dry them and roll the sweets put them in paper and start again with the dough.
It is easier if you have someone to help. Last night my son helped me with these. So I made the balls and he passed them on sugar an put in the paper cup.

I use regular sugar, but the sprinkles I use real chocolate I buy at a deli close to home. I find the little paper cups at the Dollar Store. But they are a bit bigger than what we use in Brazil. Also in Brazil they have beautiful ones. But anyway, I used the ones I had at home.

I love them...

It is hard to stop eating!!!

I love the chocolate ones, too!!!

Yuuummmyyy!!!

Do you want one, right now???

I wish I could send you some!
Thank you so much for reading my blog!!!

  7. Hello Claudine! Brigadeiros! We like them a lot. My husband lived in Brazil with his family when he was a teenager and my sister in law prepares them every Christmas. We pass them on shredded coconut.
I have a "young blog" too.
Besos from Buenos Aires, Argentina! Silvina.

  10. This seriously have me salivating! I love condensed milk, who would had thought that there is a sweet made purely out of it? I will be trying this out, just have a question, do you leave the dough to cool in the fridge, or on the counter? Thank you so much for sharing, I'm your newest follower.

    1. Awww, thank you, Kristel!!!
Sorry, I had such a busy day, only came to the computer now at midnight!
I leave them out on the counter. I don't refrigerate them, but you can, after they are done. If you live in a hot climate. Here in Vancouver, room temperature is OK. Now, you can even freeze them. They give out about 25 little balls per can. The chocolate ones a bit more because the sprinkles make them bigger. SO you can freeze them in a plastic container, just separate layers with plastic wrap and then let them defrost on the counter for 15-30 min. Lots of people do that in Brazil, they make them in advance. I normally don't freeze them, They last at least 3 days on the counter!Thank you so much for your comment and for follwing me!

  12. Hi Claudine! Revisiting your post:) I was wondering how far in advance can these made and how long are they good for once they are made? Would they need to be kept refrigerated? Thanks for the help!

    1. Hi, Maysem!
Thank you for coming over again!
I make these 2 days before the party. If the party is on Sunday, I make the "dough" on Friday night, then make the little "balls" saturday night. On SUnday they would be perfect. You can alwyas roll them saturday morning and eat them saturday afternoon, but I organize myself that way. If you try to "roll" them too early, they might be too soft. Here in Vancouver is quite cool, so I don't refrigerate them. Just keep them away form heat and sun. I put them in a tupperware and sometimes I do put them in the fridge. Either way, I would keep them for another 3 days (they won't last longer, LOL). I have seen people freezing them, ready to eat, in tupperware, for about 1 month, then just putting on trays at the party. It works! Cheers, Claudine

  13. Thanks Claudine! So they are only good for 6 days from the day they are made whether refrigerated or not? I had wondered if they last longer because I'm thinking of making them as one of the treats for gift baskets (multiple baskets). I am planning on putting the baskets together two days before I have to give them out... and then who knows if the recipients will be eating them right away. Make sense? Have you tasted them after being frozen? Do they taste as good?

    1. Hi, Maysem! I have tasted them after being frozen because people do that all the time and don't tell us, LOL! But in your case, if it is for baskets, I would just put a little sticker with "best before xx/xx/xx/". They don't ned to be refrigerated, so they will be fine in a basket.
I would give them 3 days after you deliver them. Send me a picture when you make them!

  14. Thanks bunches for Claudine! If they do end up being a part of the basket, I definitely will be sharing pictures:D
